Raising Children With Responsibility

What happened to the days of children cleaning their own rooms, taking out the trash, doing dishes, or even mowing the yard? Those days seem to be vanishing fast with video games and computers taking over our children’s lives. Children need to learn how to be self sufficient in today’s world. Living in front of a television or computer is not healthy for children.

It is important for children to have chores as they grow up. This prepares them for the real world they will face when they are on their own. Life is not easy by any means, but knowing how to cook, clean, and maintain a home can certainly make it easier. This responsibility, if learned as a child, will carry on throughout a lifetime.

Not only will teaching a child the responsibilities of chores help them later in life, but it also teaches them time management and gives them a sense of self satisfaction when a task is accomplished. As an adult these responsibilities will help them in maintaining a job or office. A clean organized office is eye appealing to managers and also helps you use your time wisely in your job performance.

Children will kick and scream about having chores to do, while the other children are playing. Stand strong in making them do their chores, but also be willing to reward them when the chores are completed in a timely manner and correctly. Help them to understand the benefits of doing chores and the advantages they will have over the other children who do not have a chore list to follow.
