Chores for Children

Chores are necessary to teach children that houses need to be kept up to live in. This can start between the age of two and three.

At the age of two or three a child should be taught simple chores, such as picking up toys and feeding their pet with supervision. These children are very excited to help do chores and are happy to do them.

At the age of four and five children still feel that helping with chores is exciting. At this age children can do more chores with less supervision. When charts are used for children this age they can see what they have done by looking at the chart, and see what they need to do to get a reward. These children can clear and set the table.

Between the ages of six and eight the child becomes more independent and likes to do chores on their own. These children are at the age where they increase the attention to what they are doing. These children need to have encouragement to develop positive self esteem and self image. Each and every child must have positive reinforcement and praise to develop into the adult that will do the needed chores to keep their life organized. A child at this age should begin to get an allowance that is not connected to their chores. Their should be consequences if they do not finish their chores. The consequences should be things such as no T.V. or video games.

Allowances should be given so that the child will develop the value of money and learn that it must be earned. The allowance should be given on the same day of the week or the same day of the month.

Household chores are part of a child's development.
