The busy day of a stay at home mom consists of carpools, homework, meal-planning, housework, and so much more. She barely has time for herself or anything else. On the other hand, most moms can juggle everything they need to do and at the end of the day feel like they have accomplished a lot. Some of these women enjoy this hectic lifestyle. The stay at home mom who also owns a pet can appreciate the calming effect that this animal gives her. Whatever the pet may be, a cat, dog, or even an aquarium full of fish, they can offer the owner the serenity needed to balance out their day.
Some new mothers who already are pet owners can get a little worried that the animal might not be able to adjust to the baby. Dogs, especially, can be very territorial and jealous when it comes to sharing the attention of it's owner. The benefit of being at home and with the pet during these adjustment periods allows the mother to work with the dog and make it feel the new baby is not replacing him. Some breeds adapt very well to this process and become protective of the new family member. Some families seek out the breeds of dogs who are known for being good guard dogs. The stay at home mother, with small children, not only feels well protected, but finds the companionship of these dogs comforting. In most cases, these animals are very gentle with the children.
