To create a balanced meal, you should always have at least two kinds of vegetables, or a salad before the meal. The salad of course will make up for one vegetable.
You can even do this with a roast in a crock pot with a lot of different kinds of vegetables. You can put potatoes in the pot for your starch or make pasta when the meal is ready to take from the crock pot.
You always want to have a starch preferably with whole grain, because it is the healthiest. You should only have red meats once a week. You can have as many vegetables as you want as long as they are not the starchy vegetables such as corn and peas. You can have fat free jello for desert or any other kind of fat free item that suits your taste. Another thing you will want to do is to have good food choices at home at all times. You should have good meats in your freezer so that you can pick out any one and make a healthy meal. If all you have are steaks and pork, it will be very difficult to make a good meal that would benefit your families health or yours. You should have enough fruits and fresh vegetables for the family to munch on in between meals. This will avoid not being hungry when the good meal is prepared.
