Getting Kids to Eat Balanced Meals

Getting your kids to eat a balanced meal is not easy. In today's world, kids come home from school only to grab a snack, and then they are off to soccer or dance class. That snack has to be fast, so they go to the pantry and pull out a Twinkie or cookies and off they go. The foods that are packaged "to go" are the favorite ones. They can be eaten in the car on the way to their activity, but if you already had some fruit ready in a Ziploc bag, that would be great and the value of the fruit with those natural sugars would give the kids more energy than the packaged sugar.

Obviously, kids should eat fruits and vegetables along with pastas and fiber. Protein also has to be included. There are many ways you can alter the normal look of a vegetable and make it look enticing. Put broccoli in a cheese soup or make a dip with pretzels or crackers. If you make your portions smaller to match the size and weight of your child, it will bring them back for seconds more easily. When you eat, eat together as a family. When you are keeping a conversation going and talking to your children about what happened in school, they are more likely to eat better since their mind is on the conversation. Balance the choices of food to include something your child really likes. Kids can be so picky, but even the pickiest of eaters will have peanut butter or mashed potatoes as a selection.
