Moms that choose to stay at home instead of pursuing careers do so with the intention of raising their children and getting them ready for their school years. In an age of working women, this choice can be difficult because devoting full-time effort to raising children involves a multitude of skills. Even mothers who choose to work at home face the same needs for skills when there are young children in the house. Domestic animals provide important support for stay-at-home moms because their very presence in the home encourages children to share their time and nurture pets. Pets draw family members together to pay attention to their needs and this kind of unity leads to happier moms and children alike, as many studies have shown.
Dogs and cats, for instance, display a deep level of unconditional love towards their family members when attention and love is displayed back to them. Children learn to care for others when pets are near them, a quality that is not inherited or taught to them with a great amount of skill by other siblings or parents. Mothers are very busy throughout the day and are much more effective raising their children when pets assist them with displaying love and affection. Young boys learn care-giving when they take care of pets and are loved in return.
Pets are thought of as members of the family in the same manner as other members. The hectic pace of life experienced by stay-at-home moms creates a yearning for daily time when children and parents alike simply spend some time with pets in the family. Mothers are both relieved of overburdening chores and healthier when pets become the focus of daily attention in the family.
